Located along a busy artery, this California ranch was completely remodeled and transformed into an open, light-filled and airy private residence that epitomizes California indoor/outdoor living. The house was designed to open up to the outdoors with large windows and french doors whenever possible resulting in a house that feels like it is part of the surrounding gardens. The use of tall cathedral ceilings in the new wings opened the house up and the addition of skylights in the older flat ceiling sections brought light into previously darker spaces.
Placement of a new garage wing at the front of site blocked out the road noise and created two private courtyards that flank the expanded living room with new French doors on both sides. The new spacious Kitchen and Dining Room at the end of the front wing open up to feel a part of the Living Room and are surrounded by gardens on three sides.
The addition of a large Master Bedroom suite at the back of the house helped to define the main inner courtyard and created a new private rear garden. The tub windows make the Master Bathroom feel a part of the rear garden. And the existing detached garage was turned into a tall and light-filled exercise room.
