Spanish Style Courtyard Residence

This California Spanish style family home strikes the perfect balance between the inside and outdoors.  The house was designed in a U-shape allowing most rooms to open up into the very private courtyard created with the pool serving as the visual centerpiece.  An arcade form was used inside the U-shape to visually tie the house together, discreetly hide the various upper floor balconies and allow the first floor to remain architecturally simple.

The Owners especially wanted to bring the outdoor in year round as Northern California’s climate easily accommodates.  Giant folding doors on each of the courtyard’s three sides provide seamless transition from indoors to out and help make the arcade feel like part of the house.  A corner folding door opens up an entire corner of the recreation room to join it with an outdoor area housing a pool table.  A small pool cabana that also has large doors that folds open on two sides adds another perfect place for outdoor entertaining.

Arches, stone window surrounds, tiled sprial stairs, vaulted ceilings, quatrefoil windows and patterned grilles are just some of the details that contribute to make this very enchanting residence.
